The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has today presented the Corruption Risk Assessment reports to the Bomet County Executive and Bomet County Assembly. The report was prepared following an assessment of the systems, policies, and procedures in the operations and management of the county operations that was carried out between October and November last year.
The event, which was held at the County headquarters, was graced by the Deputy Governor Hon. David Shadrack Rotich on behalf of the Governor. It was attended by the County Assembly team led by the Vice Chair, of the County Assembly Service Board Hon. Wesley Kiprotich, and the Clerk of the Assembly Mr. Isaac Kitur. Also, in attendance were the County Executive Committee Members (CECs), Chief Officers, and Directors drawn from various departments.
The EACC team led by the Director of Preventive Services, Mr. Vincent Okong'o commended the Bomet County assembly for attaining key milestones which include having unqualified audit opinions for two financial years ended 30th June 2020 and 30th June 2021 respectively. The report indicated that the County Assembly had zero pending bills for the financial year 2020/2021, and has developed service charters for core services like processing of bills and approval of budget.
The County Assembly was also commended for adopting policies and procedure manuals for most of its operations including the human resources, career progression, public participation policy, and governance manual.
The Deputy Governor Hon. David Shadrack Rotich welcomed the assessment report saying that it provided a direction to the county government to ensure that resources are utilized effectively. He said that the county government will implement the recommendation given within thirty days. His sentiments were echoed by Hon. Wesley Kiprotich who received the report on behalf of the County Assembly Speaker.
Speaking during the event, the County Assembly clerk, Mr. Isaac Kitur appreciated the key role EACC plays in promoting and upholding ethical practices in the public sector.
He added that the report on Corruption Risk Assessment for Bomet County Assembly will go a long way in improving the Assembly's systems and enable it to deliver services to Bomet residents in a better way. He said that the Assembly will strengthen the partnership with EACC to enhance the integrity of the its processes.
