Born in Koinon Constituency of Bomet County, Honourable Cosmas Kipngetich Korir is a career agriculturalist with particular passion in crop development, value addition and agribusiness. He holds a Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics and Resource Economics from University of Kabianga. He also holds a Bachelors’ degree in Agribusiness Management and a Diploma in Farm Management from Egerton University. He has a career spanning over 20 years in the agriculture sector, having served in different leadership and policy making positions in public and private sector. He has served as the Director for Crops Development in West Pokot County where he steered the development of market driven value addition systems and structures. Before that, he served as the Director for value addition at Bomet County Government where he is credited for steering value addition programmes and streamlining the participation of youth and women in agribusiness. He has also served at the National Government as the District Agribusiness Development Officer where he was charged with coordinating national agribusiness policy and collaborating with research institutions in development of agricultural technologies. He has also chaired different secondary schools’ boards of management in Bomet and current Delegate – Chepsol Cooperative Society.
Mr. Kitur is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Social Legislation degrees from Dr. Ambedkar College of Law as well as Post Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law. He is a Certified Public Secretary and holds a Certificate in Mediation & Conflict Resolution. Besides, he is currently pursuing Master of Business Administration at Kenyatta University. He is a member of reputed professional bodies that include the Law Society of Kenya, East Africa Law Society, Commonwealth Lawyers Association, Institute of Public Secretaries of Kenya, Kenya Institute of Management, and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbiters (London). He has special interest in constitutional law, employment laws, insurance laws, corporate governance, parliamentary procedures and customs, e-governance, tort reform, technology law and administrative law. Prior to joining Bomet County Assembly, he was a Managing Partner at Kipkorir Tele & Kitur Advocates for over five years. Before then, he had worked at Standard Assurance (K) Limited for over nine years where he rose from Legal Officer to Legal Manager and Legal Advisor to the Statutory Manager when the company was under statutory management. He has vast experience in the practice of Law as well as in corporate governance.
Bomet County is in the former Rift Valley Province of Kenya. Its capital and largest town is Bomet. The county has a population of 730,129 and an area of 1,997.9 km²
