The Bomet County Assembly Committee on Health and Sanitation, chaired by Hon. Stephen Changmorik (MCA Longisa Ward) yesterday held a public participation exercise on the Bomet County Comprehensive Eye Healthcare Policy 2025.
The policy aims to transform eye healthcare in the County through the provision visual aids and targeted eye health solutions, which, according to various research findings, has been lacking in Bomet.
The exercise saw a diverse group of attendees, including residents from all 25 County Wards, People living with disabilities, and stakeholders from the County healthcare department.
Residents highlighted the need for increased frequency of outreach services, including implementation of monthly screenings and school eye health programs to help address vision challenges early enough. They also emphasized the need for a higher budgetary allocation to the health department, ensuring residents have access to treatment for a wider range of ailments.
Hon. Stephen Changmorik, in his response, assured the participants that their recommendations would be incorporated into the final report. He also added that the Committee is dedicated to improving the well-being of its residents by prioritizing accessible and comprehensive eye healthcare.
